Nau mai, Haere Mai. Welcome to Our Place.
About the Project

The work to create a new community hub – Our Place – began at a public meeting held at Wakefield School in November 2020, with the steering group set up by volunteers from that meeting.  We established the Waimea South Community Facility Charitable Trust in 2021.

Our Place is part of a combined project with the Brightwater community.

Why have a combined project?  It’s to avoid unnecessary doubling up of facilities and resources between Brightwater and Wakefield, and acknowledges the reality that we already connect as two communities in sports and other activities.

Key partners in the combined project are us, the Brightwater Community Association (with input from Wanderers Sports Club) and the Tasman District Council.  Together we’ve taken the project through its earliest stages; a Needs Assessment to gather information about existing facilities and community needs, and a Feasibility Study to decide if the project is needed, is doable and is affordable.

Through this process the project has been split into separate parts for Brightwater and Wakefield.  ‘Our Place’ is the Wakefield part – the focus of our work, your support and this website.

Our Place is more than just a new community building.  It’s also about creating a stronger community by bringing people together, taking care of each other and allowing us all to live our best lives in this great village.

Our goal is to build a future where Wakefield isn’t just another small town, but a vibrant symbol of unity, collaboration and community that thrives for generations to come.

Get Involved

The steering group’s monthly meetings begin with a public forum open to everybody.  Come along and hear the latest about the project and have your say on what you want in a new community hub.  Our meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month, 7.00pm at the Wakefield Fire Station, Pigeon Valley Road.
